Buffy Girl

Hey there,

Brought Buffy to the Vet this morning. Nothing serious. She's getting her teeth cleaned since she jams her mouth shut like a vice and doesn't let me come anywhere near her with a toothbrush! But they do give her anesthesia so I am a bit concerned. She was scared when she got to the Vet's office, even tho he is SO nice. (And so is his office. It's all brand new. I highly recommend Dr. DiPolo and Worth St. Veterinary!)
So we're at the office and she's shaking and whimpering. Sniff, sniff. I didn't want to leave her there. But you know how Americans are with their teeth. Bright, white and pearly. Just kidding. They were starting to look a little nasty so, off she goes.

Anthropologie Sale

Was in Anthropologie on Fifth and saw some pretty cool (and cheap) stuff in their sale department hidden away downstairs. There are cool journals for under 8 bucks, spice jars for $2, creamers and sugar bowls for less than $8. There was this really cool wood puzzle of a sea scape that had pieces with shapes like fish and octopi reduced to 6 bills. Of coure there are clothes galore. Be in the mood to really go searching 'cause there's A LOT of stuff stuffed into a small space. But if you're in the mood you can find some good items. Saw this cute black full skirt with different colors around that I think I might have to go back and try on!

Calamity Janes Were Awesome

So I went down to Banjo Jim's last nite and saw the Calamity Jane's. It was wierd going down to Avenue C because I remember way back when you never went past A. There was one bar on B that we used to go to. Don't know the name but we called it the Crocodile Dundee bar 'cause that's where they filmed one of the scenes in the movie. But that place was IT. It was just too darn scary and dangerous to troll around past A. One time Lisa and I were going to the Croc bar and I had a car for some reason and we couldn't find parking so we started to head over to C. I stopped at a red light and all these homeless looking people started to converge on the car like something out of Dawn of the Dead. FREAKY! I remember Lisa saying "Go!" and I said, "But it's a red light." DOH! Anyway, needless to say I blew throught the red light and we got the H.E.Double Hockey Sticks out of there.

All that aside, the band was awesome. Really fine music although some 0f the singing seemed to be a bit off, but who cares! Banjo Jim's is a funky place. Kind of reminds me of a college bar in some hick town. But the music's cool as are the people.

Calamity Janes / Monday Nite / April 26, 2010

Saw some members of the band playing at an art gallery last year and I really like them. It's sort of old-timey fiddle music with singin' but still hip. They're playing in the East Village Monday nite. No cover!

1920's in NYC

Hey there,

Don't know if you know this but there are these cool groups in New York City who meet up AND dress up. Dances of Vice and Shanghai Mermaid are two of my faves. I've gone to dances and brunches by both and the costumes that people wear are extreme. Bustled dresses and brocade overcoats, are so cool. When I go I usually dress up in 1920's gear but people are decked out in every time period past. I just found this cool accessory on Etsy.com. It's a sweet and feminine garter with a built in flask! Most handy for those quick swigs. ;-)

The parties feature musicians with funky old-timey sounds like the Scarring Party. I love their tune, No More Room (in Hell) and tap dancers (The Minsky Sisters), and burlesque.

The next Dances of Vice event is the Swan Lake Masquerade Ball, April 30th on May 7th 2010 will be the Spring Spectacular full of Swing Dancing, Jazz and Burlesque amid cocktails and costumes. Check out the above web sites for photos and more info.
